Rashid Abdulrahman Alzayani

The late Rashid Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani was the dean and nobility of Al-Zayani family. He was born in 1912, and played an essential role in the political history of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as he was one of the members of the Constituent Assembly that laid down the Constitution in 1973. He was also a member of the Consultative Council for two consecutive terms. Rashid Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani’s record is full of many generous, charitable works in various fields.

The charity work of Al-Zayani culminated in the establishment of Al-Zayani Charity Foundation with a paid up capital of BD half a million.

 

The late Rashid Al Zayani is considered one of the pioneers of commerce in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and is the founder of the Bahrain Specialist Hospital and Chairman of its Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Bahrain.

 

Furthermore, he was the founders of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait in 1971, and the founder of Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani & Sons Company in 1947.  His Majesty, the King of Bahrain, awarded Rashid Al Zayyani the First Class Medal of Bahrain, in recognition of his continuous and distinguished service to Bahrain and its citizen.

Rashid's Biography 

  • He was born in 1912 in the City of Muharraq.

  • He completed the first phase of his study in Al-Hidayah Al-Khalifeyeh School.

  • He was a member of Bahrain's Educational Mission abroad.

  • He joined the American University in Beirut and graduated therein .

  • After he returned to Bahrain, he worked as a teacher.

  • After that, he worked for 7 years in the office of the consultant Charles Palgrave.

  • In 1947, he established Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani & Sons Company.

  • In 1971, he contributed to establishing the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait.

  • He was the Chairman of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait Board of Directors until mid nineties.

  • He was appointed a member of the town council of in which was headed by His Highness, the Prime Minister, Sheik Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

  • He was a member of the Constituent Assembly that laid down the constitution in 1973.

  • He was a member of the Consultative Council for two consecutive terms.

  • He established the Bahrain Specialist Hospital and headed its Board of Directors.

  • He has enjoyed a record full of accomplishments in the sector of business and commerce.

  •  He was an ex-member of the Board of Directors of the Industry and Commerce Chamber of Bahrain.

  • He participated in implementing a large number of charity work inside as well as out side the Kingdom.

  • He was renowned for helping the poor and needy, and building mosques like rebuilding and expanding Sheik Abdul Wahab Al-Zayani Mosque in Muharraq.

  • His last charity work was establishing Rashid Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani Charity Foundation with a paid capital of half a million BD.

  • His Majesty, King Hamad bin Isa Al- Khalifa, awarded him the First Class Medal of Bahrain, in recognition of the services he offered to Bahrain.

  • He has three sons (Khalid, Hamid, and Zaid), and six daughters. He had a fourth son who died earlier.
